Online Master’s Admissions at DigiPen
DigiPen Institute of Technology’s online graduate programs offer three start terms each year — fall, spring, and summer — allowing you to begin your studies when it best fits your schedule.
Application reviews are completed on a rolling basis. You are encouraged to begin the application process early to ensure sufficient time for transcript review and admissions evaluation.
Online Admissions Requirements
Admission to DigiPen Institute of Technology’s online master’s programs is designed for applicants with a technical foundation who are ready to deepen their expertise in fields such as artificial intelligence and game development.
To be considered for admission, you should meet the following baseline requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 is recommended
- Completed application and supporting materials
Application Materials
To complete an application for DigiPen’s online graduate programs, submit the following materials:
- Online application
- Resume
- Academic transcripts from all colleges attended
- High school transcripts are not required for graduate-level applicants
- Application fee: $60
- Application fee is waived for Fall 2026.
- Optional statement of purpose
- Optional GRE
Transcript Policy
All applicants must submit official transcripts from all colleges attended before they can be enrolled at DigiPen. Because requests for official transcripts take time to process, in addition to courses needing to be completed, we will accept unofficial transcripts during the application process. Unofficial transcripts can typically be obtained yourself and can include in-progress courses.

DigiPen can also accept transcripts submitted electronically by the issuing institution using the following services:
- Parchment
- eScrip-Safe
- National Student Clearinghouse
- SCOIR
DigiPen cannot accept opened, faxed, or emailed transcripts as official.
Applicants are responsible for the cost of the evaluation. To help alleviate the extra cost incurred, DigiPen will waive the application fee for students required to submit an external credential evaluation.
Optional Statement of Purpose Essay
Your optional statement of purpose essay can address the following points:
- Walk us through your journey. What experiences, projects, moments, or inspirations guided you to a career in this field?
- What is your primary motivation for getting an MS degree?
- What specific problem, research area, or gap in the field do you most want to tackle, and why does an MS degree feel like the right vehicle to get you there?
- Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years, and how does DigiPen's MS Degree play a part in achieving your goals?
Essay Submission Guidelines
Follow these guidelines for submitting your statement of purpose:
- Each page must be typed and double-spaced
- Spelling, grammar, and legibility will be considered
- Your statement must not exceed seven pages
Statements of purpose can be submitted by uploading directly via the online application. You can also submit your statement of purpose by emailing a copy to admissions@digipen.edu.
English Language Proficiency
If your first language is not English, you must provide proof of English proficiency.
DigiPen accepts the following forms of verification:
Standardized Test Scores
- TOEFL iBT
- A minimum TOEFL iBT score of 80 for tests completed before January 21, 2026, or a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 4 (with no sub-score lower than a 4) for tests taken after January 21, 2026. See our TOEFL iBT score changes section for additional details.
- TOEFL Paper-Based Test: Minimum score of 550
- DigiPen institution code: 4138
- IELTS: Minimum score of 6.5
- No individual subscore lower than 6.0
- Duolingo English Test: Minimum score of 115
- Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): Minimum score of C1
Alternative Demonstrations of English Proficiency
You may also demonstrate proficiency through one of the following:
- Completion of four years of high school in the United States at an English-speaking institution or international program using an American, British, or International Baccalaureate curriculum
- Completion of 6 semester credits (or 10 quarter credits) of college-level writing coursework equivalent to ENG 101 and ENG 102 at an accredited U.S. institution with a grade of B (3.0 GPA) or higher
- Completion of a four-year postsecondary degree in the United States at an English-language institution, or from an international school where English is the primary language of instruction using a British or American curriculum
Official score reports or transcripts may be required to verify English language proficiency.
International Transcript Evaluation
Credential evaluations are academic records that DigiPen requires when you apply as an international student.
Post-Secondary Transcripts
If you are an applicant who is taking, or has taken, courses at a post-secondary institution outside of the U.S. that is not U.S.-accredited, you will need to provide DigiPen with an external course-by-course credential evaluation. DigiPen accepts credential evaluations from organizations that are members of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES, https://naces.org/members/). Some of these include:
- World Education Services
- Educational Credential Evaluators
- The Evaluation Company (TEC)
An Evaluation Request Form from The Evaluation Company, customized specifically for DigiPen applicants, is available and recommended.
International Sanctions Notice
Due to applicable U.S. laws and regulations, DigiPen Institute of Technology is unable to provide instruction or educational services to individuals residing in certain countries subject to U.S. sanctions.
If you are currently residing in a sanctioned country, you may not be eligible to enroll in our online programs at this time. All applications are reviewed in accordance with these legal requirements.
If you submit an application and are determined to be residing in a sanctioned country, our admissions team will contact you directly regarding your eligibility and any next steps.
Disability Support Services
The Disability Support Services Office staff engage in a collaborative effort with students with disabilities to assure equal access by providing a variety of accommodations and services. The DSS Office also works with departments, faculty, and staff in the broader DigiPen community to prevent discrimination on the basis of disability.
